About LiquidLife

LiquidLife Photography has been created and is maintained by me, Barb Makohin. With my partner Kaj Maney (www.liquidguru.com) we are presently the Dive Operations Managers at Kungkungan Bay Resort (www.diveKBR.com) in Lembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Barb & KajA PADI Instructor, I discovered my passion for diving in the Caribbean (St Martin), which was solidified whilst on a years’ travel throughout Asia. Having spent three years working in Australia at the Great Barrier Reef and Ningaloo Reef, I returned to the Caribbean for five years, working in Saba (www.seasaba.com), Antigua and Dominica (Eastern Caribbean). Three years after meeting Kaj in Dominica (Cabrits Dive Centre), we decided to move to Malaysia to manage Tioman Dive Center (www.tioman-dive-centre.com) together for 2 years, followed by six months in Fiji. Shortly afterwards we moved back to the Caribbean and managed a private resort Island in Belize for 6 months. Desperately missing the diving in Asia we moved back and found ourselves in Lembeh Strait, Indonesia where we have been for the past 3 years.

So welcome and thank you for having a look at my photographs. I love the unique way underwater photography has given me the ability to introduce you to the natural world I know, how I see it. Come follow along on my journey. Explore, consider, and take something with you. This is nature through my eyes.

Underwater photography has been the bridge which has allowed me to fondly express my passion of this world to my family, breaching the distance between our locations.

If you do find any images which have been mis-identified please let me know. I am not a marine-biologist, I am however passionate about the life of the ocean. Over the past 12 years I have been enthusiastically increasing my knowledge through the experience of working as a Dive Instructor and reading a lot of identification references.

Current Camera & Housing Set-up

A great little set-up today with the Nauticam Housing for my Nikon D-90. I am currently very happy with this housing and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about changing their rig. It is simple to use yet allows full access to all the functions of the camera.

Past Cameras & Housings

From humble beginings. I used my night torch as the external light source – this created many times the effect that to day is all the buzz called “snoot”.

Ever since my I took my first underwater photo I knew this was the best medium I could utilise to portray how I see the beauty and splendour within our marine world. This has been a unique gift which has fondly allowed me to express my passion of this world to my family breaching the distance between our locations.
